Grandmothers have driven across Africa in Toyota Land Cruisers… so what’s the point in doing it in a car that your only major worry is if you have enough air in the tires? We recommend people doing the trip in cars that cost under €500 and probably shouldn’t be driven down the street let alone 3000 Kilometers!
The Black Sea Run was inspired by the first Fiat 126 Black Sea race in €100 Fiat’s. Eastern Europe is filled with old cheap soviet built cars. Ebay is also a great place to find good deals.
Here is a list of 3 cars we think are up for the Black Sea Run challenge. But this is your race and your choice so drive whatever you like.
Pimping your car – We want everyone to get as crazy and creative as they can to make their car stand out from the crowd. Dressing in a theme with your car is also another great idea. Prizes will be awarded for best/most creative car & best theme.
Polski Fiat 126p
The Polski Fiat 126p was the official 2010 Black Sea Run pace car. Fiat’s can be bought in Poland for €200
Trabant
The mighty east German Trabant is another great car that’s BSR certified. People have driven these cars half way around the world, so we believe they will be the prefect option for the race.
Lada Niva
The Russian built Lada’s are a tough and rugged car that’s prefect for the pot hole filled roads of the Black Sea Run. Lada’s tend to be a bit more expensive compared to the Fiat’s and Trabants.
Here are a couple other options:
